How I became a Christian: My parents were Christians and I was raised in the church. When I was 9 an evangelist named Jack Van Impe came through town and held a 3-night revival, scaring us to pieces about the “end times”. I ran up the aisle and accepted Christ at that time, but it was later in life that I truly learned about the love and mercy of God.
Most embarrassing moment: Oh so many… I worked for Prison Fellowship and held focus groups with Christian prisoners one year (while I was still single). One of the focus group members (whom I had met twice!) wrote me a passionate letter proposing marriage. “We were meant to be together” or so God had told him. I struggled, agonized and spent hours writing him back, so as not to embarrass him. Days later I got another letter from him, explaining that my kindness had just made him love me more… Letters went back and forth for weeks. Several months later I returned to his facility and attended worship services, and there I met his lovely WIFE (of more than 10 years) and his children… and I learned more about working with prisoners!
Something you probably didn’t know about Robyn: Before Prison Fellowship I spent 8 years working in the music business, doing public relations and production. At my last show (Earth Day at the Hollywood Bowl) I stood backstage watching Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr – which was surreal for someone old enough to have seen the Beatles on Ed Sullivan!
